Super Saturday success for Bloomberg HKS

The Old Mutual Men’s Premiership kicked off the 2017/18 season in style as “Super Saturday” saw all six premiership teams play at Kings Park in one afternoon. Bloomberg Hong Kong Scottish had drawn the second match of the day against long time rivals Herbert Freehills Smith Hong Kong Cricket Club. After witnessing a tight tussle between Societe Generalle Valley and USRC Tigers, the Scot’s where determined to open the season strong. In the first quarter that is exactly what they did, some energetic defense bought possession and territory for HKS who capitalized with try to debutant hooker Shea Turner by way of lineout mall. Gregor McNeish made sure of the extra two. Shortly after Scottish were back on the attack as Lex Kaleca finished off magic try of his own creation. Ale Nardoni added another try with McNeish Converting. HKS found themselves out in front 19-0 and looked to be in control of the game. HKCC were not to be discouraged though as they fought back to score a try and a penalty themselves before Shea Turner crossed for another lineout mall try before the end the first half. 26-10 was the score during the break but it was Cricket Club who came out swinging in the second half. Simple errors and a struggling scrum from the Scots allowed Cricket Club to bring the score to 23 – 26 with ten minutes left on the clock. Scottish had the last laugh though as Turner completed his hat trick and a bone crunching tackle from Kaleca lead Lucas Duley over the line. A final Score of 35 - 43 saw Bloomberg Hong Kong Scottish win their first match of the season. Valley also scraped out a win over the USRC tigers while Football Club outlasted Kowloon in the last match of the day.
